This week, practically the whole state of Florida was traumatized by the most recent storm … Milton. It was made exponentially worse having just received the initial brunt of Helene.
When we moved to the east coast, we specifically avoided Florida because of the risk of severe storms. In the couple of years after we moved, the area where we live experienced TWO hurricanes that required evacuation.
That wasn’t supposed to happen here.
I remember it all too well! We watched and waited until the day before the storm was due to arrive. It was just too risky to stay.
We evacuated to Asheville when Matthew hit which is ironic. Last weekend, we met people that were in our area trying to escape the devastation in Asheville from Helene.
The message here is “wherever you go … there you are.”
- Some stress IS related to a life threatening event.
- Some stress may just be triggered by being reminded of a previously stressful event.
- Some stress could be related to a “to do list” that seems to get longer as the days pass.
We need to learn how to master stress. Remember, it’s at the root of over 90% of disease.
