I’ve been home from vacation for a few days. It was two weeks of fun-packed days. I have memories and new friends that are lasting.
As I recovered from the travel and schedule disruption, I was reminded how different a vacation is from a retreat.
While it’s possible that both experiences are created for you rather than by you, there’s a different vibe.
Vacation days tend to be jampacked with activities. This vacation included a cruise and, even on sea days, it’s easy to fill your schedule.
Retreat days are focused on self-care. They’re intentionally less structured … allowing for plenty of time for reflection.
It’s rarely all one or the other. Typically around 80% of the experience fits squarely into either.
There’s certainly a place for both. I prefer a retreat with a clear focus on prioritizing self-care.
What’s your preferred adventure? Do you step away from your routine regularly to recharge your batteries?
And do you consider what you most need from your time away? Is it more activity and active fun? That’s a vacation.
Or …
Do you really need a change of pace? Slower days. Nurturing. To return with a recharged battery. That’s a retreat!
Both have their place. Just make sure your time away gives you what you really need.
Most importantly … get away. It’s good for the body mind and soul.
