The pressure to be constantly productive and achieve more can be overwhelming, particularly for female leaders who often juggle multiple roles and responsibilities. The key to success is not always about doing more, but rather about doing less and focusing on what truly matters. 

One of the productivity hacks that may be thought of as a bit “woo woo” is the power of flow, it’s how you tap into your flow state. Clearing clutter and distractions, maintaining an open mind, and harnessing your intuition can unleash your full potential. These concepts will provide you with valuable insights to help you achieve more while doing less.

The secret of our “Super Women” or female leaders, who can actually juggle various tasks efficiently, is to tap into their power of flow. A deep focus is the key for them to achieve more with less effort, showcasing the power of flow in action. Inn a sense, having a good flow makes you work smarter, not harder.

Embracing Flow State

The concept of flow state, introduced by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, refers to a state of complete immersion in an activity, where time seems to slow down, and you feel fully engaged and focused. When you are in flow, your intuition is heightened, allowing you to make better decisions and achieve your goals with greater ease.

As a female leader, you can access your flow state by:

  • Prioritizing tasks that align with your strengths and passions. When you are working on tasks that genuinely interest and engage you, it is easier to enter flow. One of my favorite books is the “Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. He makes a compelling argument for identifying and prioritizing working in your “Zone of Genius.”
  • Minimizing distractions. Create an environment that promotes focus by turning off notifications, putting your phone on silent, and decluttering your workspace.
  • Establishing clear goals. Knowing what you want to achieve helps create a sense of purpose and direction, making it easier to get into flow.
  • Allowing for uninterrupted time. Allocate blocks of time where you can work without interruptions, giving yourself the mental space to fully immerse yourself in the task at hand.

Clearing Clutter and Distractions

A cluttered environment, both physically and mentally, can hinder your ability to focus and tap into your intuition.

To clear clutter and distractions, consider the following strategies:

  • Declutter your workspace. A clean and organized workspace promotes focus and creativity. Invest time in organizing your office, filing paperwork, and creating a designated space for everything.
  • Streamline your schedule. Review your commitments and identify areas where you can delegate or eliminate tasks, giving yourself more time to focus on your priorities.
  • Practice mindfulness. Incorporate meditation, yoga, or other mindfulness practices into your daily routine to cultivate mental clarity and enhance your ability to focus.
  • Create boundaries. Set boundaries with friends, family, and colleagues to protect your time and energy. This may involve communicating your priorities and saying no to requests that do not align with your goals.

Cultivating an Open Mind

An open mind is essential for accessing your intuition and embracing new opportunities. You can cultivate an open mind by:

  • Embracing curiosity. Approach each situation with a sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn, rather than relying on preconceived notions or assumptions.
  • Seeking diverse perspectives. Surround yourself with people who offer different viewpoints and experiences, fostering an environment that encourages growth and innovation.
  • Challenging your beliefs. Regularly question and reevaluate your beliefs and assumptions, ensuring that they are grounded in reality and not limiting your potential. Many years ago, the founder of Centerpointe Research Institute, Bill Harris, was working with a Buddhist Zen Master named Genpo Roshi. Bill, who has since passed, sponsored a great deal of research about the emotional connection to disease as he developed their technology called Holosync

Bill was working with Genpo in the hopes of breaking through some old “stuck” patterns in his own life. After a while, Bill thought he was “getting it” and making some progress.

Genpo said, “Okay, now doubt it.”

In essence, Genpo asked Bill to doubt everything he thought he had figured out. Doubt the truth you think you know. Question what you see as reality or believe to be the problem.

As Byron Katie suggests, ask yourself, “Is it true?”

Bill said he was brought to his knees as the magnitude of the question hit him. It created a breakthrough for him.

Doubting is stressful. So you don’t want to take this too far. Just approach it with an open mind.

  • Practicing gratitude. By focusing on the positive aspects of your life and expressing gratitude, you can shift your mindset to one of abundance and possibility.

For female leaders, doing less and accomplishing more is not a paradox but rather a powerful strategy for success.

By mastering your flow state, clearing clutter and distractions, and cultivating an open mind, you can access your intuition and achieve your goals with greater ease and efficiency.

Getting Into Flow State

To start implementing these strategies in your life, consider taking the following steps:

  • Identify your strengths and passions. Reflect on the activities that bring you joy and a sense of fulfillment. Focus on incorporating more of these tasks into your daily life to increase the likelihood of entering a flow state.
  • Assess your environment. Take a moment to evaluate your workspace, schedule, and commitments. Identify areas where you can declutter, eliminate distractions, and create more space for focus and flow.
  • Develop a mindfulness practice. Start with just a few minutes each day, gradually increasing the duration as you become more comfortable. Mindfulness practices like meditation or deep breathing can help you cultivate mental clarity, making it easier to access your intuition and flow state.
  • Embrace new perspectives. Actively seek out diverse opinions, ideas, and experiences to challenge your assumptions and expand your horizons. This openness will foster creativity and innovation, both essential qualities for effective leadership.
  • Practice appreciation daily. Cultivate a habit of expressing appreciation for the positive aspects of your life, both big and small. This mindset shift can have a profound impact on your overall happiness and outlook on life.
