I’ve had fun lately watching Taylor Swift break records with her music. 🎼 And it appears that the better it gets … the better it gets.

I moved to Nashville the year she launched her career. So I’ve been along for the ride since the early days.

She has a new love in her life that may make lyrics like “they’ll tell you I’m insane” a thing of the past.

I’m rooting for her … and Travis. I’m a sucker for a great love story.

Recently, I’ve been feeling like a poster child for “insanity” myself.

I thought I needed to “up my game” with my workouts. The most convenient way to do that for me was to rejoin OrangeTheory Fitness.

It took me a few days to psych myself up after joining, but I finally made it to class. I had high hopes … even though my previous experience wasn’t great.

What’s the definition of insanity?

The music was so loud that the trainer had to yell 🗣️ … even though she was mic’d. Unless you knew what was coming, it was impossible to follow the queues that are the key to promoting heart rate variability. Without the variation, there’s no magic in a HIIT workout.

My nerves were frazzled a few minutes into class. I finally determined that I had to ignore the “noise” and keep moving.

It was a relief when the volume was reduced for the cool down.

I enjoy music. So it’s not that I expect near silence.

To their credit, they asked for feedback. Their solution … wear earplugs.

But doesn’t that defeat the purpose of paying a trainer?!

What’s the definition of insanity?

Continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result.

I knew what to expect. I thought … surely they’ve evolved in the 4+ years since my previous attempt to accumulate splat points.

Unfortunately, for me, that’s not the case. This did remind me that “HIIT isn’t it” for mature women that struggle with adrenal fatigue.

We do much better with gentle strength building. The best exercise is yoga. 🧘

The internal friction created by yoga poses recharges your human battery. The process is similar to the way the friction from braking charges the battery in a hybrid vehicle.

I created a class five years ago to meet this need. I called it Mindful Movement. I’m working on recording it to make it available in the MOLT Membership.

I add benefits to the membership regularly. If you’re interested in joining me, you can learn more here.

Until next week …

Be Well!
