I’m going to talk about something today that usually makes people look for the nearest exit.
Farting. 💨
Specifically, the science of gut gas. 🧪
I recently ran across a piece of new tech that makes the Oura ring look like a basic mood ring from the 70s. It’s “smart underwear” designed to measure gut gas to track your microbiome health.
Yes, really.
While it sounds like a bad SNL skit, the biology behind it is actually mission-critical for high-functioning women.
We’ve been conditioned to think gas is just an embarrassing social faux pas or the price you pay for eating broccoli. But in my world, gas is a systemic signal. It’s information.
If you’re regularly “gassy” or bloated,
your body isn’t just complaining about lunch. It’s reporting on a metabolic energy system that is likely buggy or overwhelmed.
Most of the women I work with are dealing with some level of gut dysbiosis—an imbalance where the “bad” bacteria are out-muscling the “good” guys. This often manifests as SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) or IBS.
And here is the part most people miss: Your gut health is directly tied to your ability to manage weight. 🏋️
If your internal filters are clogged with toxic waste from a dysfunctional gut, your body defaults to survival mode. And in survival mode, your metabolism doesn’t burn fuel—it stores it.
You can’t out-supplement a “buggy” gut. If the foundation is fermented, the whole structure is shaky. 🫨
So, while you might not be ready to wear “smart” undergarments that report your every toot to an app, you do need to start listening to the message.
Ask yourself: Is your gut quiet, or is it trying to tell you that it’s time for a deep clean?
