As long as I can remember, I’ve said I want to die walking on the beach … at 120!
YES! Just keel over and the me that has been walking around in an earth suit is gone.
Actually, the earth suit still has to be dealt with but my suggestion to the person who has to deal with the dead body is to just roll me into the sea.
My 100+ year fear of sharks dies with me. After the first bite, they may be disappointed if they were hoping for a tasty blubbery seal.
I’ve been reading a book about the phenomenon of aging. The 100 Year Life!
The book points out a few important things to keep in mind.
🪂We are ALL living longer … 4 years for every decade.
👵🏻Living to 100+ will be commonplace VERY soon.
🧐Our approach to aging MUST change if we want to enjoy those extra years.
And, that brings me to what I really want to talk about today.
MOVEMENT!
Lately, due to several excuses including … recovering from a cold, cold weather and generally feeling cold (there is a theme here!), I have been less motivated to move.
And, when I don’t move everything stagnates.
Motion is lotion!
A recent research study compared two groups of people.
Group 1 just walked for a couple of hours every day. They also stood (as opposed to sitting) for a couple of hours. Group 2 did high intensity exercise for 1 hour every day.
Many more health benefits accumulated in the group that just moved. High intensity exercise is NOT required to improve your health.
And, for mature women already struggling with chronic fatigue, strenuous exercise is not advised. It just aggravates insulin resistance.
So, as always, I practice what I preach.
I turned on the space heater and got back to my treadmill desk. My goal is 5 miles every day. It’s amazing how much improvement I notice after just a couple of days.
If you’ve been less active lately, find a way to change that!
The extra years we live are much more valuable when we have mobility and a sharp mind.
